went back to rembau for aidiladha. same ol' same ol.
tension gak kengkadang balik kampung. ok la, i ngaku that i dont do much housework - i dont cook and lets face it, im no betty crocker. whenever i do some kitchen work kat kampung, i know that i'd be doing it under watchful eyes of my makciks and pakciks. theyd scrutinize me if i buat pa pe. i think its mainly because ive had my fair share of frying popiah and ikan yang hangus and keras, but that doesnt mean that i would goreng food jadi hangus all the time! i know they mean well when they scrutinize, [i am anak dara of 22 years and i know that nobody wants to eat popiah hangus], but sometimes i have my own way of doing things, and if my way would bring the same result, so tak pe la kan?
and i also have to say that i dont like the way us women have to serve the men, in the kampung context la. my, my, hanizah yang non-conformist and feminist ni has lots of things to say after 1 night of stay at kampung..
i mean, bayangkan la, i was eating dinner with my other cousin, lets call her "sister". her younger brother comes back. terus suruh sister ni amik pinggan kat dapur. so sister has to put her chewing at a hiatus juz to grab a plate for beloved brother (who's in college, btw, bukan nye pre-schooler!)
of course i was a bit annoyed la. so i told the brother, "la, kan kakak kau tengah makan tu, amik la pinggan sendiri, bukan jauh na dapur tu". then he started saying,
jokingly (which made my blood naik lagi sket), "its her responsibility". i was juz stunned, i juz said, "hesh, kesian bini kau nanti". terdiam dia. ha, amik ko!
padde muko mung!
if i may add, the brother takes after his father very well. if the guys in my family macam tu -
chauvinistic, prejudicial and kuno gile - sori la, i dah lama lari rumah.
Alhamdulillah, my dad and my 2 brothers are not such
MALE CHAUVINIST PIGS (better known as MCPs). my dad and brothers are fully capable of tending to their own needs. they can even grab their own plate!
its not that we women
tak boleh and
tak nak tender to the men, we're more than willing to sediakan semuanya, tapi to the
EXTENT THAT U HAVE TO STOP EATING JUZ TO GRAB A PLATE FOR THESE MEN - SORI LA!!
i told my dad and mum about this and they said that i cant do anything to change that, it's tradition. well, who says that EVERYBODY has to follow tradition? IF HANIZAH DOESNT WANT TO FOLLOW TRADITION, BIAR LA. bukannye berdosa pun.
(ahem!)
now, im not sure if im still on the top-shelf of eligible anak daras, but so what? i dont see why i should live my life the way OTHERS have lived theirs. i want a strong modern male, who is not a MCP and he must be willing to savour my [tasteless] cooking and my
[unique] way of [good] housekeeping. any takers? min? ..min?
